Dr. Max Sidner, DVM
Founder and Veterinarian
Having never considered a different career path, Dr. Sidner dreamed of becoming a veterinarian at an early age and founded Athens Animal Medical Clinic in 1983 to help pets live their healthiest lives. In his words, “Big or small, I love them all!” He earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine at Ohio State.
When not at the clinic, Dr. Sidner enjoys active hobbies such as scuba diving, riding his horses, skydiving, and beekeeping.
Dr. Sidner’s pet family includes his dogs, Cali, Patsy, and Bones, all of whom come to work with him. Preferring to stay home are two more cats, Metro and Tabitha. He also has two horses, Holly and McGregor , koi and a crazy attack bird named Gizmo.

Dr. Alan Barker, DVM
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Alan Barker offers compassionate care to every pet at Athens Animal Medical Clinic. Joining the AAMC team in 2008, Dr. Barker pursued a veterinary career because of his love of animals, which began in his childhood. He fulfills his passion by helping pet patients and their owners at every opportunity and enjoys working with the great team at AAMC.
Dr. Barker attended the University of Georgia, where he earned his bachelor’s degree followed by his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1999.
Outside of work, Dr. Barker spends time with his family, including two energetic pitbull-mixes, a Golden Retreiver and two lovable cats. And if you need a good dad joke Dr. Barker is your man.
